Grow your own hazelnuts! The American Hazelnut is a productive, adaptable native shrub that yields sweet, edible nuts loved by people and wildlife alike. Ornamental catkins dangle from bare branches in early spring, summer foliage is dense and lush, and fall brings a warm blend of yellow, orange, and red. Reaching 8–15 feet, it forms an excellent privacy hedge, windbreak, or wildlife thicket, offering food and nesting cover for birds and small mammals. Plant two or more for the best nut production. Thrives in full sun to part shade and tolerates a wide range of soils. Sold in a #5 (5-gallon) container.
