Congrats Andrea Cline: Park Ridge Sustainability Professional

We asked Andrea about her efforts that have helped make impactful
changes in our community...

As a kid, I spent a lot of time in nature. I was lucky enough to have a creek in my backyard and endless bike paths that meandered around ponds and a running river nearby. In college I studied biology and was able to spend a semester at the University of Costa Rica where I was able to ravel all over the country. This all inspired a deep-seated belief that we need to preserve the resources we have for future generations.

My dad has always been involved in local politics, being a voice for his community. When I moved to Park Ridge, I was inspired to share my professional knowledge of sustainability and green infrastructure. I served initially on the Community Health Commission; then on the Sustainability Task Force which was responsible for writing the Park Ridge Sustainability Plan; then as the first Chair, for two terms of the Sustainability Commission; and finally, I am currently on the District 64 School Board.

While on the Sustainability Commission, we worked to implement the Sustainability Plan, including bringing community composting to Park Ridge and now curbside composting, making the City more accessible to pedestrians and bicyclists, and working with our elected officials to integrate sustainability into City business. I think it’s essential that we continue to work together, listen to each other, and bring everyone along in our continued efforts to make the planet and Park Ridge a more sustainable place.
